To explore safer ways of vehicle delivery to customers in Manipur, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has initiated a pilot project for road transport of Toyota vehicles until the capital city of Imphal.
Thus far, TKM like all other OEMs was delivering new vehicles in six-car carrier trucks only up to Khatkati in Assam due to the road infrastructure and other related challenges. TKM’s dealer partner, Punya Toyota, had to send its personnel to drive down individual cars from Khatkati to its outlet in Imphal through rough terrain encountered in the forests of neighbouring Nagaland.
In line with its customer-first philosophy, TKM has initiated a pilot project for road transport of new vehicles in four-car carrier trucks right up to the dealer’s doorstep.
TKM recently carried out trials for road transport until Imphal with a lead-time of three days by providing training on navigating bad roads to the drivers of its logistics partners and working closely with key local stakeholders to solve other logistical issues.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, TKM, said, “The main idea of the pilot was to explore ways for safer delivery of Toyota vehicles to our customers in Manipur.
The need to find more safer means of transportation was further accelerated due to the COVID-19 situation.
This step is a part of our plans to strengthen our sales and service network in the Northeast owing to the ever-increasing demand for Toyota vehicles and amplifying Punya Toyota’s efforts in enabling better access to Toyota’s products and services in the region. The pilot follows the recent launch of our first-ever Regional Stockyard in Guwahati in Assam to bring about a leaner and efficient distribution network across the Northeast.
We will keep exploring more ways to delight our customers.
We want to take this opportunity to wish our customers a healthy and prosperous New Year and thank them for their tremendous faith in the Toyota brand.”
In the last two years, Toyota opened two new 3S (sales, service and spare parts) outlets - one in Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and the other in Imphal in Manipur besides a first-of-its-kind Pro-Service centre in Jorhat in Assam. Further, in 2020, TKM also added 3 new service touch points in the North East region. In all, TKM now has 15 customer touch points in the region; customers can find more details about these centres on https://www.toyotabharat.com/find-a-dealer/.
