Mizoram to have RT-PCR labs in all districts

AIZAWL, Sep 30: The COVID-19 situation continues to remain grim in Mizoram as 1,741 new cases and one fatality were reported on Thursday, Government sources said.
The State’s COVID-19 count has now reached 93,660, while the death toll rose to 307, it said. The State reported 1,380 cases and three fatalities the previous day.
State Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said that RT-PCR laboratories would be set up in those districts that do not have the facility till now.
Currently, Mizoram has only one RT-PCR laboratory at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), which is the lone dedicated Covid-19 hospital in the state, near Aizawl.
An official said during a meeting on Wednesday, Lalthangliana had said that the government was making efforts to set up RT-PCR laboratories one after another in all the remaining districts, which do not have the laboratory.
Earlier, the Guwahati High Court had instructed the state government to set up an RT-PCR laboratory at Lunglei to benefit the four southern districts of the state following a PIL filed by an organisation.  According to a government bulletin, Aizawl district now has the highest number of active cases at 11,649, followed by Siaha district (1,078) and Lunglei district (925).
Saitual district has the least active cases at 32. Meanwhile, a complete lockdown was imposed on Saitual town area commencing from 7 pm on September 29 (Wednesday) to break the chain of rising Covid-19 cases in the town. The lockdown will remain in force till 7 pm on October 6, a notification issued by the district magistrate said. The single-day positivity rate stood at 18.44 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 9,440 sample tests, it said. Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 915, followed by Champhai district (388) and Lunglei district (117), it said. Mizoram now has 16,841 active cases, while 76,512 people have recovered from the infection so far. According to a statement by the state information and public relations department, at least 304 children were among the newly-infected.
Mioram’s Covid-19 recovery rate is 81.69 per cent and the death rate is 0.32 per cent.  East Mojo
