Polluted air kills 7 million people worldwide every year, but the problem cannot be avoided.
9 out of 10 people who breathe in polluted air are at risk of respiratory diseases.
Fine particles of pollution can harm us everywhere, especially in homes.
According to a study by the US Environmental Protection Agency, homes are two to five times more polluted than outdoors.
AirLabs sells air purification technology around the world. According to its chief scientist, Matthew S. Johnson, "indoor air includes pollution from the outside as well as pollution from cooking or other activities in the home."
But there are some ways we can clean the air in the house.  Here are five of them.
Keep your windows open for fresh air
1. By improving ventilation
Many homes are not ventilated and once inhaled the air continues to circulate inside.  This is an example of poor ventilation due to which the particles of pollution remain in the air of the house.  According to S Suresh of the Energy and Resources Institute of India, proper ventilation will allow clean air to enter the house.
"If you don't have allergies or heat, be sure to open your doors and windows at least 2-3 times a day," he said.
You can ventilate your home with a filtered air conditioning system.  When cooking or bathing, use an exhaust fan that can let out dirty and humid air.
2. Plant even at home
