IMPHAL, Oct 17 : Imphal West police foiled the attempt to take out a bike rally from Yaiskul Janmasthan by supporters of Thounaojam Brinda, who announced her candidacy in Yaiskul Assembly Constituency for the 12th State Legislative Assembly election today on the charge that the organizer did not obtain permit from the Deputy Commissioner concerned.
Addressing a joint press press conference which was also attended by Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha,  Imphal East SP N Herojit stated that a few days back Imphal East Deputy Commissioner sought comments from the police regarding the application submitted for holding the bike rally and a  public meeting at Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak.
Saying that the application was not approved as per his knowledge, the SP continued that the Police Department did not target any individual and there is no ill motive in stopping the bike rally.
He then appealed to all to take prior permission before holding any meeting or rally.
The Imphal West SP, on the other hand, claimed that the rally was stopped as the organiser failed to produce the permit for taking out the same.
He also said that an argument broke out between the two sides as 'they attempted to take out the bike rally forcefully.'
Claiming that there was also an apprehension of breach  of law and order during the rally as the number of participants were not known, Dr S Ibomcha appealed to all to take permission from the DC concerned before holding any rally or public meeting and the police will provide all kinds of security.
