IMPHAL, Oct 18 : MAHUD Director Thingbaijam Harikumar has stated that a process is underway to convert garbage points in Imphal to a public utility infrastructure such  as park, garden and waiting shed.
He said this after opening a public park constructed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) at Uripok Achom Leikai.
The Director also stated that similar parks are being constructed in at least 27 Wards under Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).
Stating that the IMC has identified 28 sites for the project,  he added that one small park and a garden were opened at Checkon crossing and Lamphel Super Market recently.
Harikumar also lauded former Corporator of IMC, Tourangbam Indrajit and the locals of Uripok Achom Leikai for supporting the initiative.
"This kind of initiative cannot be made possible without the support of the people," he acknowledged.
Continuing that such a site is a resource for the people, he urged the locality to keep the park neat.
