Chandel, Oct 18: JAC for Justice of BD Bungdon on Monday staged a protest at Hnahringkhu village in Chandel district demanding release of All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) president BD Romeo Bungdon.
It may be mentioned that BD Romeo Bungdon (54), alleged NSCN (IM) cadre was arrested by a joint team of Lamphel Police and Imphal West Commando on October 16 from Langol Game village.
Speaking to media persons, JAC convenor, BD Thumdang stated that BD Bungdon was a social activist who has been working for the betterment of the people and the student community in particular. BD Romeo is also the president of AMTU and working president of Manipur International University Governing Body.
He also highlighted the medical condition of BD Romeo who had a BP stroke in 2019 and termed the arrest as forceful and unjust.
BD Thumdang further urged the State Government to release BD Romeo at the earliest without any condition and cautioned that the JAC in association with AMTU and other CSOs of Chandel district is prepared to carry out other forms of agitation including ban on National projects and blocking the National Highway if the Government failed to comply with their demands.
Placards with the slogan, "Govt should be protector of citizen, should not act as dacoits/gangster", "Please give us peaceful night and comfortable sleep, Why everyone is in threat under this Govt", "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere", etc were used extensively during the protest.
