Skill upgradation training programme kicks off

IMPHAL, Oct 21: A 45 day skill upgradation training programme of handloom weaving was inaugurated today at Shintha Handloom and Handicrafts Complex (Keirao BLC), Thongju Part 2.
The training programme has been organised by Weavers Service Centre, Imphal under the SAMARTH scheme of Ministry of Textiles.
Speaking at the occasion, president of Shintha Handloom and Handicrafts, Sougrakpam Bubhon said that SAMARTH Scheme is one of the special schemes which is focused on  enhancing the skills of the weavers.
He also informed that stipend and other benefits will be given to the trainees during the training programme.
He continued that after the agriculture sector , handloom and allied sectors provide employment on a large scale. Stating that there are around 4 lakhs weavers in the State hence the SAMARTH Scheme will benefit the State considerably.
Today's inaugural function was graced by Bashikhong Zilla Parishad member, Chirom Jasowanta, Pradhan of Thongju Part 2 Gram Panchayat, Nameirakpam Kanon Chanu, Project Manager of District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal East, Ch Tombi Devi and Assistant Director (Weaving) of Weaver's Service Centre, Ibohal Singh as the presidium members.
