Tamenglong, Oct 21: Forest Minister Awangbow Newmai on Thursday launched the "Save Amur Falcon 2021" or "Gaklou Dikho Akhoipuina 2021" poster campaign at Tamenglong Forest IB, Tamenglong district.
The campaign was organised by Tamenglong Forest Division in association with Rainforest Club Tamenglong.
It was attended by officials of Tamenglong Forest Division and public leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Awangbow Newmai appealed to the public to protect the Amur Falcons in Tamenglong district during the migratory season of October and November as they play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem of many countries.
Hunting of Amur falcons may attract unwanted legal actions such as imprisonment upto three years in jail and monetary fine upto Rs 20,000, he asserted.
Moreover, during this season, the Forest Department would be deploying volunteers and forest staff to protect the falcons. The Department is also going to celebrate a 'State Level Amur Falcon festival' at Chiuluan in November.
As per Dr Suresh Kumar, scientist, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, the Satellite transmitters tagged Amur falcon, "Chiulon" had reportedly arrived at Tamenglong HQ on October 19.
