Fish fingerlings released in Loktak on its day

Fishery and Education Minister S Rajen Singh has released more than four lakh fish fingerlings into Loktak lake as a part of Loktak Day today.
A Ministerial team led by S Rajen Singh also reinaugurated Experimental Fish Farm at Sendra.
MLAs L Radhakishore Singh of Oinam A/C, P Sharatchandra Singh of Moirang A/C, T Robindro Singh of Thanga A/C, Commissioner, Fishery M Harekrishna Singh (IAS), Director Fishery, Heisnam Balkrishna Singh and other officials and staff of Fishery Department were also present during the occasion.
Speaking to the media, Rajen said that on the occasion of 32nd Loktak Day Celebration the Department of Fishery has released four lakh, ten thousand fish fingerlings into Loktak Lake as a part of the celebration. Out of the four lakh and ten thousand fingerlings, one lakh and ten thousand are contributed from two fish farmers namely Heisnam Meghachandra Mangangcha from Thanga and Ibosana from Laphupat Tera, he informed.
As a result of mass fish catching through different methods in Loktak Lake, the number of aquatic creatures has been decreasing day by day.
Majority of the people living around the lake also depend on this lake. Fishing is the main occupation of the people. That is why the Fishery Department is releasing fish fingerlings with the objective to multiply varieties of fishes in the lake, he added.
Later, MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh along with the members of Loktak Festival Organising Committee, Thanga released more than one lakh fish fingerlings into Loktak lake at Thanga. Speaking to president Loktak Festival Organising Committee, Thanga Ex-Minister H Sanayaima Singh said that due to the pandemic the festival is not organized on a scale as before. The committee also conducted ritual prayer after collecting water from the esha mapal of Loktak lake at Loktak Lairembi Lampak.
