KANGPOKPI, Oct 21: The ongoing Kuki Football Academy Open night football tournament has been halted for some time owing to continuous rainfall which had rendered the playground unplayable.
However, till yesterday night the match officials and the authority concerned managed to conduct the matches. KMT Khongngam sealed a narrow 1-0 win over Y Langkhong Youth Club in the first match on Wednesday night despite heavy rain playing a spoilsport.
It was Ngamboi's goal early in the 5th minute that helped the Khongngam side to secure all three points against Y Langkhong YC.
Similarly, Kuki Modern College Imphal beat Saikotjang Youth Club in the second match with Daniel hitting the target in the 54th minute.
The third match between Songjang Pakang and Chavang FC Kholep was a thrilling game to watch as both the teams exhibited stunning skills and talent inside the muddy and slippery ground owing to the rain.
The game however ended 2-1 in favour of Songjang Pakang as Chavang FC Kholep despite coming back with better performance in the second half failed to restore parity in time. Kamginhao gave Songjang Pakang the early lead with a fine goal in the 7th minute before his compatriot Ngamlal doubled the advantage in the 20th minute.
Chavang FC Kholep had a brilliant comeback in the second half with Chuhpu pulling back a goal in the 47th minute but their effort to draw level could not materialize till the final whistle.
As heavy rainfall continues till today, the KFA's authority in consultation with the match officials decided to postpone the upcoming matches until further notice in its emergency meeting held this afternoon.
