Protest staged against Ukhongang grenade attack

THOUBAL, Oct 23: Locals staged sit-in protest in Heirok and Ukhongsang on Saturday against the grenade attack at the house of Ningthoujam Diten.
Villagers of the area came in hundreds to protest the attack purportedly carried out by   unknown miscreants at the house of intending NPP candidate of the Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Heirok AC, Ningthoujam Diten in Ukhongsang Mayai Leikai on Friday.
At the protest held at Ukhongsang Mayai Leikai playground, N Diten condemned the attack carried out by unknown miscreants and stated that he has not done anything to harm anyone or has enmity or quarrel to be targeted in the manner.
He called for a peaceful Heirok AC and stated that the attack was carried out at his residence when he was away distributing labour cards at Salungpham on Friday.
The intending candidate also appealed to all to cease such attacks in public places and come forward for peaceful conversation if they have any reservations against him.
Besides, at the protest staged at Heirok Keithel, the protesters strongly condemned the barbaric act and urged all involved to clarify in the matter at the earliest.
The villagers further expressed their anguish over the recent acts of violence carried in the constituency and called for a peaceful conduct of election.
Placards with the slogans, "We want peaceful conduct of election", "No place for violence in democracy", "Punish the culprits", "we stand with N Diten", etc were displayed at the protest.
