Three suspected cadres of NSCN (K-YA) were killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
The development came within 48 hours of a deadly ambush on a convoy of Assam Rifles killing the commandant, his wife, minor son and four personnel in Manipur.
A source in Assam Rifles told this correspondent that there was an input about a group of eight to 10 armed militants who had kidnapped two persons from Lahu village in Khonsa.
“Based on the input, additional information was gathered and an operation was launched.”
The kidnapped persons have been identified as Rowang Lownag, chief of Lahu village, and Sunwang Hakhun – both of them have been safely rescued.
“The killed militants are Myanmarese national, indicating that Myanmar-origin militants are sneaking inside Indian territory and indulging in criminal and terrorist activity,” the source added.
A joint team of Assam Rifles and Arunachal police launched a joint operation. “The team cordoned Khogla village, around 10 km from the Indo-Myanmar border, under Waka circle.”
“As the operation progressed, a contact was esta- blished and during the firefight, three militants were gunned down,” added sources.
Source said security forces have recovered three assault rifles, including a German-made HK (Hacker Kosch) rifle, and huge quantity of ammunition. The identity of the militants are yet to be identified, the source added.
All attempts to speak to police officials in Arunachal Pradesh turned futile.
The operation was un-derway at the time of filing of this news report. More details will be updated.
Confirming to EastMojo, the director general of Arunachal police RP Upadhyaya said, “Three ultras have been eliminated.” East Mojo
