Drugs worth Rs 4 cr seized in Assam, two from Manipur detained

GUWAHATI , Nov 20
The Guwahati and Kamrup Police in a joint operation seized a truck and recovered drugs worth Rs 4 crore at Byrnihat.
The drugs, identified as heroin, were seized by the police team on Friday under the leader of the Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwa- hati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
The police team intercepted the truck near Byrnihat along the Assam-Meghalaya border and seized the consignment of heroin weighing half kg.
It is suspected that the drugs were being carried from Manipur and supposed to deliver in Guwahati.
The registration of the truck has been identified as MN 07C 4292.
In connection with the seizure, Ithemcha Muslam and Ramesh Chetri of Manipur were detained.
The police also detained the receiver of the consignment, Nongthou.
An Alto car was also seized by the team.
While sharing a video clip of the operation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday tweeted:  “As of now, a massive operation against drugs peddlers is underway in Khanapara by the Guwahati Pol. These are deferred visuals.”
Informing about the operation, Kamrup Police tweeted: “Guwahati & Kamrup Police under the guidance of JCP Partha Mahanta intercepted a truck near Byrnihat & seized Half a Kg of Heroin valued at Rs 4 crore.”
“Ithemcha Muslam & Ramesh Chetri of Manipur & reciever Nongthou were detained. The truck & an Alto were also seized,” it added.
On Thursday, Kamrup Police during an operation seized 33 vials  along with 43.7 grams of suspected heroin.
The operation was led by the officer-in-charge of Chaygaon police station.
A police was nabbed in this connection.
“This time OC Chaygaon and team carried out an operation and. Recovered 33 nos. of vials with 43.7 grams suspected to be heroin. A person was apprehended. We are committed to conduct such drive against drugs in future too,” Kamrup Police tweeted on Thursday. North East Now
