Senior State Basketball Championship St Anthony women thump ESU 33-10; YC, Lamka BC, YPHU win in men's competition

IMPHAL, Nov 29 : St Anthony registered a 33-10 win over ESU in the women's opening match of the Senior State Basketball Championship being organised by the Manipur Basketball Association at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court today.
Chonchon scored the highest 12 points for St Anthony as the team were 8-0 ahead in the first period before easing to 17-6 till halfway. Leishimi (6), Caroline (4), Deborah (3), Meppi (3) and Victoria (5) to scored for the winning team as  Janat Sahani (2), Lucy Bina G (1), Leishembi (3), Reveala (1) and H Samjota (3) scored for ESU in this one sided encounter.
Meanwhile in the men's Group stage matches, YC, Uripok; Lamka BC and YPHU emerged victorious.
In the Group B opening match of the men's competition, Peter Naorem shone with a massive total of 25 points to help YC Uripok overwhelm Chandel Basketball Club (CDL BC) 63-21.
Ksh Rakesh (15) and Ksh Tinku (11) also scored double digit points for the Uripok team. For the Chandel side, Beningtha scored the highest 8 points followed by Benedict with 7 points in his name.
In the Group C league opening match, Lamka BC carved out a 52-42 win over Elite Club with Mawi Khan making the most score with 13 points and Kamlian Thang adding 12 points.
Thangminlian also added 9 points in Lamka BC's tally as  Doumal Sawm managed 8 points, John Mungmuan added 4 points, Siam Muan Mung scored 2 points and Khup Muan Sang added 4 points.
In the meantime, YPHU who notched up a 65-40 win over Home Coming Club yesterday in the Group A opener extended their winning run with the 76-28 demolition of St Anthony today as Tutu, Borish and Akash scored 13, 12, 10 points respectively. Marshal (7), Ozzy (2), Tansan (6), Lubert (6), Khagemba (6) and Kemlin (2) also scored for the Lalambung side.
For St Anthony, who were handed second loss today, Christopher scored the highest 9 followed by Job (5) and Simon (5), Rabbi (3), Yunreitha (2), Yursen (2) and Bosco (2).
