IMPHAL, Dec 3: A drug awareness programme was held today at Hatta Golapati Maning Leikai as a part of 'War Against Drug' campaign.
The awareness programme was jointly organised by Muslim Council Manipur (MCM) and Committee of Civil Society Kangleipak (CCSK).
Today's programme was graced by president of CCSK, Jeetendra Ningomba, president of MCM, Haji Arafat, NAB SP, K Meghachandra, president of MMWO, SK Wajid Shah, president of AMMOCOC, SM Jalal and president of UPRECK, Lakhi Kumar as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Jeetendra Ningomba stated that the youths of the State have been badly impacted by drugs and other harmful illegal substances
He continued that the number of drug users are increasing at an alarming rate and termed it as a matter of grave concern.
In connection with the upcoming election, the youths are being manipulated by the intending candidates by luring them with drugs and other harmful substances just for mere political gains which has led to the rampant use of illegal and other harmful substances, he added.
In view of the above scenario, the drug awareness campaign has been conducted in a crowded place like Hatta Golapati to sensitise the public about the harmful impacts of substance abuse and to avoid unwanted incidents related to the upcoming election.
Lastly he called for concerted efforts to fight against the substance abuse in the State
Haji Arafat also earnestly appealed to all to work collectively to save the State from the stronghold of substance abuse  and to prevent the future generations from falling prey to such injurious habits.
