'Goura Dhumen' kicks off

IMPHAL, Dec 3: 'Goura Dhumen' was inaugurated today at Shri Shri Madan Mohon Mandap at Kongba organised by Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur.
The inaugural function of the programme which will be held for three days was graced by former MLA of Bishnupur Assembly Constituency, Govindas Konthoujam and Chief Advisor of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur, Brahmacharimayum Amu sana Sharma as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest, Govindas Konthoujam said that Manipur is well acclaimed globally for its unique art & culture and  sports.
Emphasizing more on the arts and culture, he said that a strong base of art & culture was built during the reign of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra.
Stating that the Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur is playing a pivotal role to preserve the 'Nat Sankirtan' art form which is experiencing a downward trend, he stressed on the need to make concerted efforts to protect this special art form from further degradation.
Speaking about the programme, spokesperson of the Foundation, T Irabot said that Goura Dhumen was started by Maharaj Nara Singh.
Goura Dhumen was also held earlier at Shri Shri Gopinath Temple at Ningthoukhong, he added.
He further informed that Goura Dhumen which has been inaugurated today will be held for 3 days and it will be attended by around 80 artists. Also he stated that the event will be conducted adhering to the traditions laid by the teachers and forefathers.
