Nemcha Kipgen launches 'Napao Kijilin'

KANGPOKPI, Dec 2: Kangpokpi AC MLA, Nemcha Kipgen on Thursday launched "Napao Kijilin" at Deborah Hall, Mount Sinai School in Motbung Model village.
The MLA launched the book during a prize distribution programme of the Community-level Competition on Thadou Arts and Poetry organised by Thadou Linguistics Forum (TLF).
It was attended by Nemcha Kipgen; Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, social activist; and Kaikhosei Lhouvum, chief of Motbung Model village as presidium members.
Pastor Mangboi Thadou, TBAI who attended the function as Dedicating Minister invoked a blessing prayer for all the participants and winners of the Competition.
Speaking on the occasion, Nemcha Kipgen stressed on the importance of language and stated that language is essential for the development of culture  and preservation of one's heritage and traditions.
She also quoted Afghan-born American Novelist and Physician, Khaled Hosseini, "if culture is a house, then language is the key to the front door, and to all the rooms inside the house".
The MLA mentioned that saving indigenous languages like the Thadou language is crucial to ensure the protection of cultural identity and dignity of the indigenous people and safeguard their traditional heritage.
"When a language is lost, part of that culture is lost and by the same measure, when language is preserved, the traditions and customs continue living in the hearts and minds of those who understand it", she asserted.
Nemcha Kipgen also appreciated the initiatives taken by Thadou Linguistics Forum and stated that the efforts and struggles of the forum will bring a bright future for the people  and will hone the youths towards cultural and social development.
Paominlun Lhouvum, secretary Thadou Linguistics Forum said that Thadou Linguistics Forum was formed on March 22, 2021 at TBA Conference Hall, Motbung.
Later, books on Thadou poetry and history were also distributed.
Nemcha Kipgen along with other dignitaries also handed over prizes to the winners of the online Community-level Competition on Thadou Arts and Poetry.
The winners in the order of merit are as follows:
Traditional Arts- Lalthanglen Hangshing of K Twikun, Chonsanglen Lunkim of Kangpokpi DHQ and Thanglenmang Singsit of Molhoi, Leimakhong.
Thadou Poetry- Jamkhongam Haokip of G Songgel, Thangminlal Haokip of Aigejang and Naocy Haokip of Assam.
