IMPHAL, Dec 3 : Students of Manipur College blocked Mayai Lambi road for over an hour today protesting the hike in transport fares.
At the site, the protesting students accused the  Sing-jamei police of shoving girl students.
Reportedly, one student (female) was injured.
Later, a team of Singja-mei police led by OC P Achouba rushed to the spot and drove away the protesting students.
Speaking to media persons, one student Ksh Dijen urged the State Government to look into the matter and regulate travel fares.
Saying that the students would launch more protests if the State Government remains a mere  spectator over the matter, he asked if the Government has taken money from the passenger service  providers.
"If the Transport Department could not supervise the transport fares, it would be better for  department to shut its office," he  said.
Claiming that certain police (male) personnel shoved  some girl students in an attempt to subdue the protest , Dijen asked if the State police didn't teach its personnel on how to deal with protesters, specially women.
He then urged the State Government to take legal action against the police personnel who shoved female students.
Failure to pay heed to the demand would invite more agitation, he cautioned.
It is reported that no women police personnel were sent to control the protest.
