IMPHAL, Dec 4: A Joint Transporter Committee, Manipur was formed today with representatives from various transport associations and representatives from All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) at a programme held at AMSU HQ, DMU campus.
Speaking at the programme, Laishram Athouba, vice president AMSU and convenor of the newly formed committee said the increase in fare has impacted the students and the public alike while the increasing fuel price and price of essential commodities have forced the transporters to increase the fare. The committee is being formed to address such issues at the earliest. Brahmacharimayum Dhana bir Sharma was also appointed as chairman of the committee.
The committee will urge the Government to reduce the fuel price and fully implement schemes meant for transporters, he added.
Fare for students in uniform of school/college/universities or having a valid identity card will be charged at 50% of the normal fare.
An advisory committee of the Joint Transporter Committee was also formed.
