'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' observed across State

BPR/SPI/THB, Dec 3: As observed across the world, 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' was also celebrated in the State on Friday.
'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' is observed to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
 BISHNUPUR
In line with the observation of ‘International Day of Persons With Disabilities’, the District Election Office, Bishnupur organised a district level painting competition on the theme "Voting Rights of Disabilities" at Ibudhou Sorarel Community Hall, Toubul.
The programme was held in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Bishnupur, Green Brigade Manipur and Legal Aid Clinic Toubul.
It was attended by District SVEEP Nodal Officer, Dr Salam Dhana Singh; Up pradhan Toubul GP, Thoudam Gopal Singh; Toubul GP Ward No 2 member, Th Jibong Singh; Salam Rajesh and Irengbam Onita as presidium members.
Later, Dr Salam Dhana Singh distributed cash prizes and citations to the winners of the painting competition.
Similarly, Erambam Apunba Disabled Welfare Association Wangoo under the aegis of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India also observed 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' at  Wangoo Ahallup Chithek Leikai Community Hall in Kumbi AC.
It was attended by Wangoo GP pradhan nominee, Amom Keshworjit Singh; Ward No 8 member nominee, Kh Oken Singh; Erambam Apunba Disabled Welfare Association president, Th Ratan Meitei and secretary L Binoy as presidium members.
SENAPATI
'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' was also observed at Senapati Disabled People Association Manipur (SDPAM), Conference Hall under the theme “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post- COVID- 19 world”.
It was organised by SDPAM in collaboration with District Social Welfare, Senapati, Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA) and District Legal Service Authority, Senapati.
The programme was attended by Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati; Rocky Tholu, MPS, ADSP, Senapati; JK Makabo, District Social Welfare Officer, Senapati; T Peter Rangnamei, Director MANEDA; Koshia Mao, Additional PP to District & Sessions Court, Senapati and A David Mao, president SDPAM as presidium members. Speaking on the occasion, N Suren Singh, MCS, SDO Willong stated that differently abled persons can also exercise their voting rights through postal ballot without visiting the polling station.
He mentioned that it is the ethical duty of every citizen to exercise their voting right and urged the people to not accept bribes to ensure a free and fair election.
THOUBAL
District Administration Thoubal in association with District Social Welfare Office Thoubal, Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal and Regional Institute of Handicapped Persons (RIHP) jointly observed 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' at RIHP complex in Yairipok Bamol Leikai. It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Ahanthem Subash; RIHP Yairipok  president, Dr Maibam Rajendra Singh; District Social Welfare Officer Thoubal, Arambam Kameshwar Singh and NYK Thoubal District Youth Officer, Michael Thangmilien Mate as presidium members.
As part of the programme, T-shirts printed with "I Am Ready" were also handed over to the registered disabled persons. The T-shirts were sponsored by Electoral Officer Manipur.
RIHP also provided blankets as winter gifts to the participants.
