IMPHAL, Dec 4: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda So-nowal has categorically  stated that his Ministry would lend  100 per cent support in developing Loktak Lake as a domestic and international tourist destination. He also urged the State Government to submit proposals towards developing the lake and achieving this goal.
He gave this assurance of developing Loktak Lake during an inspection trip of the lake today.
The Union Minister said that he was visiting Manipur and Loktak Lake in accordance to a directive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intimate the Centre's full support towards developing the Ayush sector and inland waterways in the State.
"The North-East has a great responsibility in the development of the Nation", he added and claimed that in all 75 years following the independence of India, no other Prime Minister has worked for the development of the North-East as much as PM Modi.
He proceeded to laud the PM stating that Modi has poured his efforts into empowering the women of the region,  promoting the youth, supporting the farmers as well as contributing towards development of infrastructure, communication and connectivity in the North-East.
He further commended Chief Minister N Biren Singh for the various schemes and projects taken up under his leadership and the Loktak Development Authority for their contribution in conserving the lake. It may be noted that the inspection trip organised by the Loktak Development Authority was attended by RK Ranjan, MoS Education and External Affairs; P Sharatchandra, MLA Moirang AC and L Susindro Meitei, Chairman, Loktak Development Authority.
