IMPHAL, Dec 4 : Wangkhei Assembly Constituency MLA Yumkham Erabot has announced that curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse would be his agenda for the forthcoming State Legislative Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference at Nongmeibung Khanglabung today after kick-starting his house campaign, Y Erabot stated that checking drug abuse and trafficking is not an easy task that could be done with mere lip service.
A strong commitment is required to save the State from drug menace, he added.
Saying that the honesty of legislature and judiciary in checking drug menace in the State is being questioned by the people, the veteran politician, however, clarified that he didn't target any particular individual in the issue.
The State has seen seizure of consignment of drugs on several occasions in the last 10 years, but the rate of  conviction for the same is literally negligible, he claimed.
He continued that his volunteers discovered a huge quantity of disposable syringes while digging earth to construct one Eco Park at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
"Such a discovery proves that the rate of drug abuse is higher than people imagine in Manipur," he said. Erabot also maintained that certain politicians investing a huge amount of black money to win elections is rather unfortunate. On two or more candidates eyeing for the BJP ticket in certain constituencies, Erabot stated that such a development would have both gains and losses to the party.
He said that support of BJP intending candidates to the party cannot be guaranteed in every Assembly segment after they are not given the party's tickets,  The house campaign concluded at Nongmeibung Seram Leirak.
