IMPHAL, Dec 5: Deputy Director (Disabilities) Department of Social Welfare, L Dhaneshor Singh has stated that in this day and age persons with disabilities have started producing many hand-made items,  displaying a multitude of talents instead of being shut at home like a lot of people assume.
The above statement was made by the Deputy Director today at the commencement of a 5-day State level exhibition for persons with disabilities organised by Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons under the sponsorship of Department of Empowerment of Persons With Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The event was held at Tera Ideal Club Complex, Tera Bazar with the theme of 'Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post Covid 19 world' in connection with International Day of Persons With Disabilities 2021.
Speaking at the event, L Dhaneshor Singh stated that as a show of encouragement towards disabled persons, the Department of Social Welfare is working on installing a showcase where the products crafted by PwDs can be sold.
He added that the Airport Authority of India has approved the setting up of a showcase displaying items for sale made by PwDs at the Arrival Lounge of the airport in response to a request made by the Department.
He also lauded the Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons for their unflinching dedication towards the cause of PwDs despite facing multiple obstacles.
L Dhaneshor Singh further urged the people to participate in the exhibition and work towards the upliftment of PwDs.
Athokpam Bishorjit Singh, Pradhan Tera Sapam Leikai GP conveyed his appreciation for the PwDs for showcasing their talents  and added that in order to bring about an egalitarian society it is essential to uplift the marginalised sections of the population.
Media advisor of Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons delivered the keynote address and stated that the annual exhibition was conducted to provide a way for the products crafted by PwDs to reach the market and promote them.  
The event was attended by P Gojendro Singh, president Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons and RK Tombisana, president Ideal Club Tera Keithel.
Thirty stalls are set to participate in this 5-day long exhibition and a t-shirt sponsored by the Department of Empowerment of Persons With Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India was also released as part of the event.
