KANGPOKPI, Dec 4: Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship (KTCF) on Saturday celebrated its Silver Jubilee and Advent Christmas in Kangpokpi.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen stressed on the viral role played by the Church in building a strong and peaceful society.
The local MLA highlighted the roles played by Churches of Kangpokpi town during the COVID-19 pandemic and stated that various activities and services initiated to save the people of Kangpokpi during the first and second wave was successful only after Churches in the town took an active part.
"When Churches are strong, the society grows and becomes strong", said Nemcha Kipgen while exhorting the Churches of Kangpokpi under the aegis of KTCF to pray ceaselessly for the town and the people.
In regards to preservation of land, the MLA stated that the forefathers despite their illiteracy had vision and understood the importance of protecting land.
She also urged the people to avoid cultivation of crops and plants that are detrimental to the land and society.
"My message to the people on this auspicious Advent Christmas celebration is that we are now well literate compared to our forefathers and being a responsible Christian it is our duty and responsibility to preserve our land. With our knowledge and wisdom of segregating good and bad, we must ignore all that can destroy the land", she added.
Nemcha Kipgen further appealed to the people to maintain unity and extend their support to the Government in the event of a third wave while urging the Churches to take an active part again.
As part of the programme, the participants also condoled and paid respects to the departed souls of former KTCF leaders.
Nemcha Kipgen then released a souvenir to commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebration of KTCF. She also provided financial assistance to all the Churches of Kangpokpi town as Christmas gift.
Earlier, a monolith to commemorate the silver jubilee celebration of KTCF was unveiled by Rev K Hangshing, chairman KTCT and the traditional Gong "Dahpi" was beaten 25 times.
ADC Sadar Hills caretaker chairman, Haokholal Hangshing; and Pastor J Lunkim, Moderator, Manipur Synod KCC also attended the event.
