IMPHAL, Dec 5: Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has announced that seven 10-bedded Ayush hospitals and 15 ayush dispensaries would be established in the State.
The Union Minister for Port, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush who was in Imphal on his two-day visit to the State, made the announcement today at a press conference held at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat at the concluding part of a function to promote documentation, scientific validation and evalu- ation of traditional health- care practices of the Northeast region.
Together with Chief Minister N Biren, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated a 50-bedded integrated ayush Hospital at Moreh through video conference.
The Union Minister further announced develop- ment of herbal gardens in 100 schools, one nursery each in 16 districts of the State to produce quality planting materials and 15 health and wellness centres.
These were the projects which his ministry decided to take up for the people of Manipur, he said, while hoping for successful completion of the projects with cooperation of the people.
“I am hopeful that these projects will be successfully implemented within a time bound period with the support of the people of the State,” Sonowal said. He further expressed full confidence that the State Government will extend its full cooperation in the completion of the projects within a specific time frame.
“I am confident that these particular schemes will also inspire the people of Manipur to develop herbal gardens and also to develop medicinal plants available in the State,” he said.
The Union Minister observed that Manipur and other Northeast States have a lot of potential for development of Ayush while asserting that the region is bountiful of medicinal plants.
Northeast region is fast developing under the initiative of the Central Govern- ment led by Narendra Modi.
In Manipur too, development paces are accelerating under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh with the guidance of the Prime Minister and other Central leaders, he said.
He said that Northeast States including Manipur have high potential of becoming the organic hub of the country. Knowing this potential, the Prime Minister has been giving special focus to the region to make India a global superpower.
Chief Minister N Biren stressed the need for formulating a scientific plan to systematically grow indigenous medical plants for large scale production. He also mentioned the need to explore the skills and knowledge of traditional healers like Maibas and Maibis in a more scientific manner.
For this, Biren said, he would convene a joint deliberation of the scientists and officials of the Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Directorate of Ayush soon.
The Chief Minister opined that the outcome of the deliberation would be useful in seeking assistance from the Centre in the promotion of Ayush in the State as well.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the staff of the Directorate of Ayush  for their contribution in combating COVID-19 pandemic.
He observed that the virus is now almost overcome in the State with joint efforts from different sections. However, he also cautioned the public to be careful as a new variant known as Omicron had started spreading in different countries, and some cases had been detected in India as well.
The Chief Minister said that screening of passengers had already begun at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in this regard.
He also said that Jiribam would be rewarded for becoming the first district of the State which has achieved 100 per cent first dose vaccination.
Union Minister of Education and External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan Singh, in his speech, highlighted the values of medicinal plants available in the State and drew the attention of the Union Ayush Minister in exploring these plants.
Advisor to Chief Minister (Health) Dr S Ranjan Singh and Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) V Vumlunmang also attended the function as dignitaries.
