IMPHAL, Feb 23: Apart from distributing face masks to vendors as well as customers, MLA AK Mirabai has started installing hand sanitiser boxes around the four women market complexes of Khwairamband including the temporary market shed.
Notably, the women markets were re-opened on February 15 after they were closed for almost one year on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to media persons at Khwairamband today, Mirabai noted that people have been following the COVID-19 SOP to protect themselves from the highly contagious virus.
In view of the crippling impacts of the pandemic on the State’s economy and the untold misery faced by daily wage earners including vendors, the Government re-opened the Ima Keithels even though the pandemic has not been fully controlled.
However, many people have now started lowering their guards against the virus. A large number of people are seen not wearing face masks and they are not keeping the prescribed physical distance.
Such behaviour evokes a serious apprehension about a second wave of the highly contagious virus sweeping through the State, MLA Mirabai said.
She said that people still need to take utmost care in view of the detection of new strains of Covid in Maharashtra and Kerala.
Mirabai said that she was distributing hand sanitisers and face masks at the women markets considering the need to keep one’s guard still on.
