IMPHAL, Feb 23: In connection with a violent incident which took place on November 22, 2013 in which Dolly Reang of Ramke-Klulong village, Tousem sub-division was killed while three others sustained injuries, one Raju Bishnupriya (33) has been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment.
The Court of Sessions Judge, Imphal West passed an order to this effect yesterday.
According to the case dossier, Raju Bishnupriya of Jiribam came inside a labourers’ makeshift tent built at Ramke-Klulong village under Makru River at around 6.30 pm of November 22, 2013.
As he swung a sharp knife inside the tent, Dolly Reang (34) from Assam was killed while three others namely Jesuya Reang alias Bondo Reang (25) from Assam, Lalmohon (30) from Assam and Th Basanta Singh alias Bono Singh (27) of Jiribam sustained injuries.
The case was heard at the Court of Sessions Judge, Imphal West yesterday.
After hearing both the Additional Public Prosecutor and the defence counsel, the Court sentenced Raju Bishnupriya to rigorous imprisonment for seven years and further eight months imprisonment which should run consecutively.
However, the period of detention undergone by the convict during the period of  investigation and trial should be set off against the  sentence of imprisonment.
The convict has been in custody since November 27, 2013.
The Court also recommended payment of compensation to the family members of Dolly Reang and the injured victims under the Manipur Victim Compensation Scheme.
