'Umang Lai' carries message for protection and preservation of nature: Leishemba Sanajaoba

IMPHAL, Feb 24: 'Umang Lai' carries not only religious ideology but also carries a message for protection and preservation of nature.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba said this at the foundation stone laying programme of 'Ibudhou Chajinglakpa Pureilomba' temple at Lilong Chajing today.
The foundation stone laying programme organised by Ibudhou Chajinglakpa Pureilomba Thougal Ashil Lup was also attended by MLA Karam Shyam and Wairokpam Joy, president of Ibudhou Chajinglakpa Pureilomba Thougal Ashil Lup.Speaking at the event, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba said different experts in the field had a consensus on the idea that 'Umang Lai' carries the idea for preservation and protection of nature not only for the humans but also for other life forms.
He also added that 'Ibudhou Chajinglakpa Pureilomba' is a very important deity which is included in the 'Laikok Chanba' (a documentation of Umang Lais with brief description).
He also said that there were reports of untoward incidents at the site of the deity some 20 or 30 years back, but it has all changed by the efforts of the locals under the leadership of MLA Karam Shyam.
He also assured financial assistance for the temple after the MP Local Area Development Fund (LADF) was released.Speaking on the event, MLA Karam Shyam said the unique recognition that Manipur has in the country is also because of 'Umang Lai'.
He added that the present site of Ibudhou Chajinglakpa Pureilomba was in a poor condition but the work of Ibudhou Chajinglakpa Pureilomba Thougal Ashil Lup members, youths and locals has  resulted in the present condition of the site.
An open air gym and an eco park have also been set up inside the temple complex and there is also a plan for a mass tree plantation campaign in the coming monsoon season, he added.
