Minor held with drugs

IMPHAL, Feb 24: Imphal West district commandos arrested two alleged drug smugglers including a minor along with 2 lakh WY tablets at Khumbong bazar at around 8.30 pm yesterday.
While one is a minor, the other arrested individual has been identified as Langpoklakpam Amarjit Meitei (42) of Keirak Yawabung, Kakching district.
They were travelling from Imphal towards Khumbong in a Tata truck when they were arrested at Khumbong bazar.
On preliminary investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Amarjit disclosed that he was hired by the father of the juvenile who owns the truck while the minor revealed he was sent by his father to accompany the driver for loading cement from Silchar, Assam, said a police source.
The minor further disclosed that he had allegedly kept concealed 20 packets containing 2 lakhs WY tablets in the vehicle. The WY tablets were allegedly handed over to him by one person of Sora Maning Leikai to be transported to Silchar. He had earlier ‘transported’ 1 lakh WY tablets to Silchar in January on the instruction of the person from Sora.
The two arrested persons and the items seized including the vehicle have been handed over to Patsoi police station. A case has been registered and investigation is on. Some ‘important persons’ involved have also been identified and efforts are on to nab them, said the police source.
