Senapati, Feb 24: Drawing the attention of the authority concerned and the State Government, the Koide Union sought the requisition of new alignment for the proposed Karong-Kedima Road (Alternative NH-2) starting from a place, Khiirei to Biisho. Khiirei is a place stated to be around 5 km away from Karong.
In an application addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, KS Solomon; president Koide Union stated that it would be better if the present alignment of alternative NH-2 runs along the northern direction of the Barak River bank.
The alternative NH-2 running along the northern direction of the Barak River bank would definitely shorten the distance of the road by around 4-5 kms and its grading would be better as it runs along the river bank.  For varied reasons, the drivers prefer to ply on a low terrains slope road and shorter distance road. In a similar way, the alternative NH-2 from Khiirei to Biisho running eastward may be less taken by the drivers due to high terrains slope unless a new alignment is made to run along the Barak River bank in the northern direction, the Union president mentioned.
KS Solomon continued that real development would come when things are done in the right direction in the larger interest of the people as such development is only meant for people of the region. Similar application were submitted to the Minister, PWD, Manipur; Minister, PHE, Printing & Stationery, Manipur; MLA, 47-Karong A/C and concerned SDO, Purul block.
