IMPHAL, Feb 25: A sit in protest was staged at the complex of Irabot Bhavan today organised by Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI, MSC) against the hike in fuel prices.
L Sotinkumar, State secretary of CPI, Dr M Nara Singh National Executive member, M Joykumar, assistant secretary, RK Amusana secretariat member and M Sakhi, president of All Manipur Nupi Marup participated in the protest among others.
L Sotinkumar strongly condemned the steep hike in fuel prices across the country though the fuel prices in the neighbouring countries  do not exceed more than Rs 70.
He continued that the fuel price in Manipur is the highest in the North East and questioned why the State Government is not able to reduce the tax while the other States have already reduced it.
Dr M Nara stated that the present Government is protecting the corporate houses ignoring the plight of the masses. The rising fuel prices will eventually increase the price of essential commodities, he added. The party warned of strong agitations along with support from the people if the fuel prices are not reduced at the earliest in the State.
