Houses reduced to cinders

Tbl/Cdl, Feb 25 :Blazing infernos reduced two houses to ashes in separate incidents at Chandel and Thoubal district yesterday.
The fire at Thoubal district gutted the house of a widow identified as Konsam ongbi Radharani (45), wife of Late Konsam Jane, at Charangpat Mayai Leikai. The fire is suspected to have started due to a  gas leak at around 6 pm. She had lit up candles as there was no electricity which suspectedly triggered the fire.
Charangpat Gram Panchayat Ward No 5 Member, Konsam Surbala expressed sympathy and said the widow had been living with her two sons at the house. The victim (widow) had earlier applied for benefits of a widow scheme, but she has not yet got the benefits, said the Member appealing Government and all wishers to extend assistance to the widow and her children.
The widow, Konsam Radharani said the fire had reduced their house and all belongings to ashes and she and the children do not even have extra clothes other than ones they are wearing. Her eldest son is reportedly a Class XII student.
“The house was all there was for us, but the fire has left us mother and children without a home. Our future is now uncertain,” Radharani said, hoping for assistance from the Government.
Meanwhile, social worker Kharibam Jivan of Wangkhem has extended some monetary assistance to the victim family. On the other hand, the fire at Chandel district gutted the house of one Sehlun Lamkang of Lamkang Khunou village at around 11 pm yesterday. The fire is suspected to have started due to an electric short circuit. The house along with all properties were destroyed by the fire, but fortunately none was hurt.
The estimates of the properties damaged in the two incidents are not known yet.
