Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated key projects--worth Rs 7,700 crore--under 'Asom Mala' scheme in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district in Assam. The initiative is to boost the State's road infrastructure, improve connectivity and contribute to Assam's economic progress.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stones of two medical college and hospitals in Biswanath and Charaideo in Assam.
After launching the key projects in Assam's Dhekiajuli, PM Modi said, "I have a dream of setting up at least one medical and a technical college in every State to impart education in local language."
Encouraging people to use regional/local language for studies, he said, "I assure to the people of Assam that Assamese language will be introduced in one medical college and one technical college after the formation of the next Government in Assam."
PM Modi further said, "[The establishment of] AIIMS in Guwahati will change the life of Assam. Why the previous Government didn't think about this?
"Until 2016, there were six medical colleges in Assam. But in the last six years, six more medical colleges have been set up in the State and two more medical colleges will be built," PM Modi said.
"Assam will get 1600 more MBBS doctors after the new medical colleges begin operations," he said.
"Today Assam is witnessing another journey of development," PM Modi said.
PM Modi further alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched abroad to defame Indian tea.
"Today, a conspiracy is being hatched to defame Indian tea at the international level. But, the people of India will defend it," he said.
"People who are conspiring to defame India have stooped so low that they are not sparing even Indian tea. You must have heard in news that these conspirators are vowing to malign the image of Indian tea in a systematic manner across the world," news agency ANI quoted PM Modi as saying.
The Union Budget 2021 also found a mention in PM Modi's speech in Assam. He said, "In the country's budget, Rs 1,000 crore has been allotted for the welfare of tea workers.
"The budget allocation for health infrastructure has been increased. Integrated labs will be set up in 600 districts in the country," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Assam Sunday morning. He was welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. PM Modi will later visit West Bengal as well to launch projects.
