SHILLONG, Feb 7 : The opposition Congress has expressed confidence to win a single-party majority in the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Congress spokesperson, Zenith Sangma claimed the people are with the Congress and are anxious to oust the ruling National People's Party (NPP) from power.
"The party is well prepared and in the ensuing elections, we are going to win a single-party majority to form the next executive committee in the GHADC," he said.
The Congress is also set to field candidates from all 29 seats.
"The first list of candidates will be declared within two-three days or may be on February 10," he said.
The Congress leader also predicted that the NPP will be facing strong anti-incumbency and the reason is "corruption".
Sangma then said that the failure to clear salaries of the employees for the past 32 months is also one of the issues based on which the upcoming elections will be revolving around.
Asked, the MLA said that investigations on any alleged corruption or a corrupt practice should be done immediately and expeditiously.
"So when the state government is delaying investigating corruption charges or alleged involvement in corruption, be it in the district council or any agencies of the state government, it implies that they are not serious or may be some of their people are involved," he said.
Meanwhile, Zenith Sangma informed that an election manifesto committee has been constituted for the GHADC polls and very shortly within one week the election manifesto of the party will be released.
