Dr Vardhan opens new facilities at RIMS

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated several new medical facilities at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal today.
Among the new facilities inaugurated today are a new MRI block with 3-Tesla MRI machines, new PG ladies hostel of 100 capacity (G-3), a Neuro ICU Block and a new block of the College of Nursing. Member Parliament (Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency) RK Ranjan Singh,  Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba and Director of RIMS Professor A Santa Singh graced the inauguration function.
In his address at the Jubilee Hall of RIMS, Dr Harsh Vardhan lauded the RIMS authorities for completing the infrastructure development projects despite the hardships faced amid the COVID-19 induced lockdown. The timely completion of the projects showed the level of commitment of the RIMS authority in their efforts to provide best healthcare services to the people of the region, he said.
The Union Minister also assured all possible assistance to develop the RIMS as one of the best healthcare centres not only in the North East region but in the country.
The Health Ministry is giving priority to the development of the healthcare sector in the region as the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to the all-round development of the region, he added.
With a huge increase in the funds for healthcare, sanitation and drinking water services in the Union budget, Dr Vardhan said many initiatives will be taken up in the coming years that will strengthen the healthcare system and help achieve the goal of providing good healthcare to the people.
He added that the Centre has already decided to create 75 new medical colleges in the country. The setting up of Churachandpur Medical College in Manipur and Mon Medical College in Nagaland which for he had laid the foundation stone on Saturday are a part of the Central Government’s initiative, he said.
He informed the gathering that the Prime Minister himself is monitoring all the developmental initiatives being taken up in the region.
Earlier addressing the occasion as guest of honour, MP RK Ranjan said that introducing nuclear medicine at RIMS will not only ease the inconveniences being faced by the people of the State and other North East States in treatment of cancer but also save a huge amount of money they have to spend.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba said that the RIMS has all the potential to become a key medical institute not only for North East India but the entire South East Asia.
