TENGNOUPAL, Feb 28: Meetei Council Moreh and several organisations imposed a total shutdown in Moreh today after a hand grenade exploded at De-Khunai Resort Hotel at Moreh bazar yesterday.
The shutdown however was suspended late in the evening today.
The hand grenade, reportedly lobbed by unknown assailant(s)  exploded at around 6.53 pm yesterday at the main gate of the resort, owned by Meetei Council Moreh president Mayanglambam Thoiba. The blast damaged portions of the gate and windows, however no one was hurt.
Immediately after the blast, panic spread in the town and shopkeepers downed their shutters.
Later, Moreh Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops) M Amit, 43 Assam Rifles CO Sumit Sood,  and other officers visited the site and took stock of the incident. The security personnel recovered a hand grenade pin and collected bomb fragments for investigation.
Meanwhile, locals including womenfolk and representatives of civil society organisations staged a sit-in protest in front of the hotel today strongly condemning the incident.
The protesters held several placards that read “stop terrorizing people”, “we condemn bomb blasts at public place”, “do not disturb peace & harmony of Moreh town” and “we want peace” etc and asked individual(s) or groups responsible to claim responsibility and clarify within 48 hours.
After the sit-in, a mass rally was also organised. All shops and businesses remained closed during the shutdown hours.
Several Moreh based orgasnisations including Meetei Council Moreh, Hill Tribal Council (HTC),  All Community Development Organisation Moreh (ACODOM), Tamil Sangam, Gorkha Samaj Samiti, Manipur Muslim Council Moreh, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Yaipha Thourang Thousillup (YTT) Moreh Khunou, Social Development Youth Club (SDYC) Moreh Henoumakhong, Citizen Welfare Club (CWC) Moreh bazar, Health and Education Research Society (HERS) Moreh Turel Wangma, Social Welfare Youth Club (SWYC) Moreh Prem Nagar have condemned the incident.
