Sahitya Premi Samiti organises seminar on Sankirtan

IMPHAL, Apr 11: A seminar on 'Origin of Manipuri Sankirtan' was organised by Sahitya Premi Samiti Imphal today at Shree Shree Ramji Prabhu mandap in Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
The seminar was attended by CAF and PD Minister Thokchom Satyabrata; MLA Nahakpam Indrajit and L Upendra Sharma, president, Sahitya Premi Samiti Imphal as presidium members.
The event is organised by Sahitya Premi Samiti Imphal as part of the yearlong 60 year celebration of the the samiti and sponsored by Padmashree Sougaijam Thanil Singh.
Th Satyabrata said Meitei community was involved in various dance forms and religious ceremony from very early time and such traditions were passed down from generation to generation. He lauded Sahitya Premi Samiti Imphal for their initiative towards preservation of Manipuri Nat Sankirtan for the future generations.
MLA N Indrajit said the youths of the state should show interest in  this art form and get involved in Manipuri Nat Sankirtan to preserve this peculiar art form.
Professor Polem Nabachandra was the moderator at the seminar and Thokchom Ritankumar, Professor Haobam Nanikumar and Dr M Thoiba presented their papers on different topics at the seminar.
