National safe motherhood day observed; Gestational Diabetes mellitus screening launched

BPR/TBL/TPL , Apr 11: Community Health Centre, Heirok  under the aegis of District Health Society Thoubal observed the National Safe Motherhood Day on the them 'Educate, Acknowledge and Focus On The Problem Of Diseases Claiming Solution For Them' at CHC Heirok today.
The inaugural function was attended by Dr Y Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer Thoubal, Ch Basanta Singh, District Programme Manager, DHS, Thoubal and Dr Th Ramananda Singh, MO incharge, CHC Heirok as presidium members.
Dr M Sanatombi Devi, Medical Officer welcomed all the dignitaries and participants specially pregnant women and explained about the importance of observing the day.
The CMO Thoubal highlighted about the services provided by the National Health Mission like Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, Janani Suraksha Yojana and JSSK programmes.
Ch Basanta Singh mentioned the importance of regular Ante Natal Check Up for pregnant women, regular exercise, having a balanced diet and the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) Scheme of the Social Welfare Department cash incentive of Rs 6000 for pregnant women.
As a resource person, L Surnalata Devi, Supervisor, ICDS Project Thoubal delivered a speech on nutritional supplements, dietary foods and other food items which are easily available.
Dr Th Ramananda Singh explained about the Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in pregnant women and stated that GDM screening would enable us to know about future Diabetes complication and risk factor in pregnant mothers.
The complications like heart disease, abnormal child birth, still birth may occur if not diagnosed in time. Pregnant women of RBS above 140 mg/dl are in risk of having diabetes in the future. To prevent such risk factors it is very important to educate, acknowledge and focus on the problem of diseases claiming solution and precaution for both child and pregnant mother, he added.
As a part of the programme ANC Check Up, free diagnostic services were conducted. Balanced diet foods, free drugs were also given to pregnant women. Altogether 32 pregnant women benefited from the programme. 4 pregnant women were registered for PMMVY scheme.
Similar programmes were also held at Health and Wellness Centre, Haokha and Wangkhem.
In the programme held at  HWC Wangkhem, Dr M Rakesh, MO CHC Yairipok, Th Ashalata Devi, Supervisor, ICDS Project  Thoubal and H karnajit of Huidrom Leikai Youth Club attended as presidium members.
Altogether 24 ANC Check ups were done and 3 PWs were registered for PMMVY scheme at the spot.
In the programme held at HWC Haokha, Dr Ruhana Shahni, MO in Charge of UPHC Thoubal conducted ANC check up of 25 pregnant women and 2 of them were registered for PMMVY scheme.
 National safe motherhood day was also observed by District Health Society Tengnoupal and ICDS Cell Tengnoupal at Sub District Hospital, Moreh.
It was attended by Dr Kh Gojen Singh, Chief Medical Officer Tengnoupal; CDPO Tengnoupal, Meba Maring and Machi Block CDPO, Mitabina.
Likewise, National safe motherhood day was also observed at Thinungei Makha Public community hall by Integrated Child Development Scheme Bishnupur and Ayushman Bharat Health & Wellness Centre Thinungei and at HWC Phubala by Ayushman Bharat Health & Wellness Centre.
