Al Bashir shines as KKR lift T20 MMCT trophy

KANGPOKPI, Apr 11: The first edition of T20 Mangboi Memorial Cricket Tournament organized by Kangpokpi Cricket Association ended in style today at Brig M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi.
The tournament is organized in memory of (L) S Thanglienmang Kipgen, popularly known as Mangboi, who was one of the cricketing pioneers in Kangpokpi and a founder member of Kangpokpi Cricket Association. Veeru Pandey, family members and wife of (L) Mangboi Kipgen and local civil bodies' leaders graced the closing ceremony as presidium members.
The final match was played between Kanglatongbi United Cricket Club (KUCC) and Karong Knight Riders (KKR).
Kanglatongbi United Cricket Club won the toss and set a target of 107 runs in 20 overs after electing to bat first. Amit with 19 runs was the highest run getter in KUCC innings while Mustaq, Akram and Nashir took two wickets each.
Karong Knight Riders had a shaky start as they lost three wickets cheaply early on but Al Bashir anchored well with a brilliant half half century to steer the team to a 5 wicket victory.
Winners of the first edition of the tournament, Karong Knight Riders walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy besides a medal each for the players handed over by (L) Mangboi Kipgen's mother Nemlhing Kipgen in the presence of other dignitaries.
Runners up, Kanglatongbi United Cricket Club were on the other hand awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a trophy.  (L) Mangboi's wife Chinneilhing Kipgen also presented medals to each player in the runners up team.
Al Bashir of KKR who was declared man of the match, was also awarded a trophy and cash prize.
Sameer of KUCC on the other hand bagged 'Man of the Series award' while Ajay Chhetri of KUCC bagged 'Catch of the Tournament award' and A&A Pictures Kangpokpi received the Spirit of the game award.
