IMPHAL, Apr 11: The employees’ associations of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Porompat have called off their stir after the Government agreed to fulfil their demands today.
The Teachers’ Association (TA), Trained Nurses’ Association (TNA) and the Association for All Non-Teaching Staff (AANTS) of the institute called off their stir after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government.
The MoU was signed during a meeting of the associations with Government representatives under the chairmanship of MLA S Ranjan, Advisor (Health) to the Chief Minister.
A copy of the MoU available with this paper states that the Government has agreed to implement the 7th Pay Commission in JNIMS with notional effect from January 1, 2016 as a special case. The implementation will start with effect from April 1, 2021.
The MoU noted that the Government agreed to implement the 7th Pay Commission as demanded, considering the special duties performed by the doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS, especially in facing the COVID-19 pandemic. “This rare exception is made only in the wake of duties performed [by the employees] in tackling COVID-19 pandemic requiring extra hours of work and uninterrupted services, often at risk to personal life. Hence, this may not be cited as a precedent by other autonomous bodies, societies, PSUs under Govt of Manipur,” the MoU said.
Further the Finance Department also agrees to consider the request of the TNA for adoption of MACP and uniform allowance on priority, added the MoU.
It may be mentioned here that MoU came after the members of the Teachers’ Association and Trained Nurses’ Association submitted mass resignation on April 8 crippling services at the hospital.
