IMPHAL, Apr 13: Amid tight security measures, people paid floral tributes at the Cheiraoching memorial site of nine persons, who were killed by the security forces on this day in 1982 at Kodompokpi.
Surviving family members, representatives of several CSOs, Meira Paibis, people of all communities remembered the incident and paid tributes at Cheiraoching at around 8 am.
Police personnel were deployed at the site for security and to enforce COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures.
Red Cross Society members were also present.
A family of one of the nine “martyrs” from Kwakeithel Moirangpurel said floral tributes are paid every year to remember them and pray for their soul to rest in peace.
The memorial service was organised as the Gauhati High Court, Imphal bench allowed it many years back, she said.
Proscribed outfit, Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) has meanwhile, thanked family members and all the people who visited Cheiraoching and paid floral tributes to the nine “martyrs” on “Athoubasinggi Numit” today.
It thanked the media, medical teams, those who were responsible for transporting the people to the site at Cheiraoching and the Manipur police including traffic for taking up security measures and assisting the people.
“Athoubasinggi Numit” was also observed in its headquarters and all units and their members paid floral tributes to the “martyrs”, it said in a statement.
