Manipur Weightlifting Association lauds Mirabai

IMPHAL, Apr 19: The Manipur Weightlifting Association, Imphal has congratulated Padma Shri Saikhom Mirabai Chanu who secured a bronze medal in 49 kg during the Asian Senior Men and Women Weightlifting Championship held at Tashkent, Capital city of Uzbekistan.
Mirabai lifted 86 kg in snatch and world record setting 119 kg in clean and jerk to make a total lift of 205 kg, said the Manipur Weightlifting Association with pride in a press release. She is the first women weightlifter to create a world and Asian record simultaneously and has a bright chance of winning a silver medal in Tokyo Olympic Games, as per Olympic eligibility criteria, i.e. one Nation one athlete in a specific body weight individual sports of weightlifting, it said.
