Schools in Tura to close

Shillong, Apr 27: The District Administration in West Garo Hills on Tuesday directed all schools and other educational institutions in Tura town to remain closed from April 28 to May 8.
The order was issued in view of a surge in positive coronavirus cases from returnees to Tura town, which are coming from different states having lockdown and exponential cases.
Due to the highly contagious nature of the virus, it is necessary to break the transmission chain and necessary to put in place preventive measures so that the pandemic of Covid-19 does not spread to other parts of Garo Hills, it said.
As per the order, all the schools and other educational institutions of Tura Town including St John Secondary School, Chibragre and Auxilium Secondary School, Alotgre shall remain closed with effect from April 28 to May 8.
However, on-going MBOSE examinations will continue as scheduled by strictly following COVID protocols. All the institutions shall maintain the classes through online teaching.
Further, the District Magistrate had directed that all the shops and commercial establishments in the Town area to close their business activities by 7 pm everyday with effect from April 28 but will be closed for the whole day on Sundays. However, home delivery services shall continue including medicine shops.
The order also stated that the night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am all over the district shall continue until further orders however, it would not be applicable to Security Forces, Medical Team and other Emergency Services including goods transport and Inter State transport.
Further, the District Magistrate had advised everyone to wear a face mask and cover their mouth and nose when coming out which is mandatory and spitting and smoking in public places including offices and workplaces is prohibited. Violators would be imposed penalty by the designated Officers, who have been empowered under Section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 as notified earlier.
