Cash crunch in ATMs adds

IMPHAL, May 9: Cash crunch in most ATM booths in Imphal City and its surrounding areas is distressing the anxious depositors who are short of cash during this pandemic.
The curfew being clamped in areas under IMC and Greater Imphal has only exacerbated the hardships of the common people.
Common men are being forced to come out from their homes to withdraw money from ATM booths, amid the curfew as they have run out of cash to manage the family amid surging prices of all essential items.
Poeple have to travel long distances in search of replenished ATMs which actually are very limited.
As such, a large number of people are seen queuing up in front of a few ATM booths in front of SBI at MG Avenue and Axis Bank at Thangal Bazar.
One Kshetrimayum Ruben who was waiting for his turn at SBI’s ATM booth at MG Avenue said that he rarely got a chance of withdrawing money from the ATM as the money often gets exhausted when his turn arrives after standing in line for a long time.
He continued that he came all the way from Kongpal despite warnings from the police due to the need for money.
Another person who identified himself as Narajit Singh from Lamlai aired dissatisfaction that he has to return home dry after reaching Imphal as he could not find any replenished ATM booths although he needs the money to pay debts.
The Government employee lamented that nothing could be done without money while urging the Government and banks to consider the hardships being faced by the common men.
