18 more succumb in Meghalaya

Shillong, May 13: Meghalaya recorded 18 more deaths to Covid-19 on Thursday, taking the State’s total death to 268.
Of these, 16 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district and 1 each in West Jaintia Hills district and East Jaintia Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed.
The State also hit a record daily high with 591 new infections being reported in the last 24 hours pushing the number of active cases to over 3,700.
Dr War said new cases include 318 in East Khasi Hills, 93 Ri Bhoi, 63 West Garo Hills, 37 West Jaintia Hills, 32 South West Garo Hills, 14 East Jaintia Hills, 9 South West Khasi Hills, 9 East Garo Hills, 8 North Garo Hills, 7 West Khasi Hills and 1 South Garo Hills.
He informed that of 228 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 150 are from East Khasi Hills, 32 Ri Bhoi, 18 East Jaintia Hills, 11 West Jaintia Hills, 6 West Khasi Hills, 5 South West Garo Hills, 3 South West Khasi Hills, 2 West Garo Hills and 1 South Garo Hills.
So far, a total of 21,576 Covid-19 cases have been detected in the State out of which 3,726 are active cases, 17,582 recovered while there have been 268 deaths.
With 2,121 active Covid-19 cases, East Khasi Hills which includes State capital Shillong is the worst affected district, followed by Ri Bhoi with 502 cases.
There are 352 cases in West Garo Hills, 156 East Jaintia Hills, 147 West Jaintia Hills, 137 South West Garo Hills, 124 West Khasi Hills, 64 South Garo Hills, 58 East Garo Hills, 48 North Garo Hills and 17 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,98,727 persons who have tested for Covid-19 in the State till date, 4,77,151 were tested negative for the virus even as 793 persons are in institutional quarantine and 2,933 under home quarantine.
There are 1,17,733 entrants from outside the State.
27,545 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,261 had received the second dose, while 66,594 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,202 got the second dose as of Thursday.
Moreover, 2,08,166 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 26,802 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 across the State.
