IMPHAL, May 8
Two days after Dr K Rajo Singh was removed from his post as the Director of Health Services, the Government has once again re-engaged him on contract basis today.
This is the second time, Dr K Rajo has been made the Director of Health Services on contract basis against a Court order which quashed his earlier engagement.
He will hold the office until further orders. The engagement is made in view of the urgency due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and is subject to ex post facto approval of the State Cabinet and concurrence of DP and FD/PIC, and signing of contract agreement, said a letter of the Deputy Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), Soiminlian Lengen to the Director of Health Services today.
Significantly, the Government on May 6 had cancelled Dr K Rajo’s engagement as Director of Health Services after the High Court took up a contempt case against State respondents for not complying with its order which quashed the engagement.
It may be noted that after his retirement, Dr K Rajo was first engaged as Director of Medical and Health Services on contract basis for a period of six months from December 1, 2020. The contract agreement was signed between him and the State Health Department on November 30, 2020.
Dr P Shyamsunder Singh had then filed a writ petition before the High Court challenging the contract agreement signed between Dr K Rajo and the State Health Department.
On January 22, a single bench of the High Court had then quashed the November 30, 2020 agreement.
