Jongsha declared containment zone

SHILLONG, May 9: East Khasi Hills district administration has declared the entire village of Jongksha under Mawkynrew block as a containment zone.
The order was issued after a report was received from the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawkynrew and Medical & Health Officer in-charge Jongksha PHC that more than 30 plus positive cases of COVID-19 have been detected at Jongksha village.
"Therefore, in the interest of the public...and in order to facilitate contact tracing, isolation and testing of the high risk contacts, it is deemed necessary to declare the entire village of Jongksha as a containment zone, so as to restrict unregulated entry and exit on the site," the district magistrate said.
The order has stated that no person shall be allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within this area shall not move out.
All shops and establishments are also asked to remain shut during the containment period.
Any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC, it added.
