Smuggling bid foiled, goods worth Rs 39 lakh seized in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jun 17 : The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized contraband items worth more than Rs 39 lakh along the Indo-Bangla border in East Khasi Hills on Wednesday, reports NNN.
Acting on a tip-off, BSF troops launched a search operation in the border area of Lyngkhat and foiled the attempt of the smugglers by confiscating 160 mobile phones worth Rs 25 lakh, which were hidden in the bushes by the smugglers. These mobile phones were to be smuggled across the border to Bangladesh, a BSF source said.
In a similar incident, BSF troops confiscated contraband items including clothing and cosmetics worth more than Rs 14 lakh in the South Garo Hills district while being smuggled to Bangladesh. All the seized items were handed over to the Customs office, Baghmara, the BSF source added.
