Explicit WhatsApp group case: Court rejects bail plea by accused

IMPHAL, Jun 19 : Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has rejected the bail application filed by Konjengbam Karorchandra Khaba and Abujam Satyajit who were arrested for uploading/sharing sexually explicit contents on a Whatsapp group.
They have been remanded to judicial custody till July 3.
The accused-Konjengbam Karorchandra Khaba (27) s/o Ibotombi of Kongkham Makha Leikai Nambol and Abujam Satyajit 27, s/o Manaoton of Changangei Maning Leikai were produced before the Court by a team of Cyber Crime Police Station Manipur after the completion of their police custody period along with a prayer for reminding them to judicial custody.
On the other hand, the defense counsels of the accused filed a remand objection and prayed for their release on bail.
The  IO of the case through APP submitted that Konjenbam Karorchandra Khaba revealed that he was a member of the Facebook page "Kanglei Imagi……… Nupising" (some letters deleted for ethical reasons).
Saying that Karorchandra admitted to having uploaded obscene videos and shared a link that contains several pornographic materials including photos and videos of Manipur women and child pornography, the IO continued that Abujam Satyajit is also a member of the group.
The defense counsel of Konjenbam Karorchandra submitted that the accused is quite innocent and that the charges levelled against him are false.
No incriminating article, material was seized or recovered from the possession from the accused at the time of arrest or while in police custody, the defense counsel said and added that the accused is a bread earner of his family.
The defense counsel of Abujam Satyajit also submitted that no incriminating article was recovered from the possession of the accused and prayed for granting him bail.
The Court after hearing both sides and on perusal of the case record observed that the offenses the accused have committed have offended and demoralized the women's society. Konjenbam Karorchandra Khaba and Abujam Satyajit have been remanded to judicial custody till July 3 by the Court.
