IMPHAL, Jun 21: A sit-in protest was staged in Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai regarding an unfortunate incident wherein two brothers from the locality physically assaulted and fired upon another boy from the same locality on the night of June 18.
Speaking to the media, brother of the victim, Huidrom Jackson (13), said the two alleged perpetrator of the assault on the night of June 18 were Yumkhaibam Ibomcha (52) and Yumkhaibam Naobi@Penao, s/o late Yumkhaibam Khutamcha. He added that on the night of the incident Jackson was returning home from one of his relatives and on the way home, Y Ibomcha, who was allegedly drunk, enquired about an accident that had happened earlier. When Jackson replied he had no idea about the accident, Ibomcha assaulted him, he added.
Following the incident, Jackson returned home and alongwith two friends, Jackson went to meet Ibomcha again to question the reason of his earlier behaviour, but on the contrary Ibomcha again punched Jackson and Jackson retaliated , added brother of Jackson.
At this moment, Ibomcha took out a gun and attempted to use it, but some locals in the vicinity raised alarm and during the hustle, Ibomcha dropped the gun and immediately it was picked up by Naobi@Penao, brother of Ibomcha who fired upon Jackson. Naobi also threatened the locals with the gun when they told him not to use the weapon, alleged by the family of Jackson.
A report was filed at Porompat Police Station regarding the incident on June 19, but no action has been taken up against the alleged perpetrators, added the family of the victim.
The sit-in protest demanded immediate and fitting actions against the people involved in assault against Jackson.
